Construction Points:

A good foundation is the key to guaranteeing the longevity and quality of your cabin. Only a completely level, rectangular foundation and bearers will ensure problem-free installation of the cabin.

The floor must be a minimum of 50mm off the ground, preferably more. The underside of the floorboards and the joists should be painted thoroughly and care taken to ensure enough airflow under the house. We recommend using Malthoid DPC between joists and the ground.

Your chosen site must be levelled and compacted to minimise ‘settling’. We recommend using strip or spot foundations, concrete foundations or pavers or a cast concrete bed.

If unsure consult with, or have the foundation prepared by a specialist.

q: Hello Is the Britta suitable for coastal, very high wind conditions? How long would you expect the spruce to last unpainted or oiled. In other words, can it be left to weather naturally without significantly reducing its durability, like macorocarpa? Can you tailor windows and doors to double glazed standard door height? Thanks
a: It's definitely suitable for coastal conditions, and sturdy enough to resist high winds (it's designed for Northern European conditions). The cabin must be painted/stained to prevent the timber from deteriorating, it will prevent mold etc. A carpenter can help make a any changes that are required.

q: Can you confirmed that the cabin has no form of insulation in the walls and the ceiling i.e. this would need to be done if one wanted to assure a warm interior during colder weather.?
a: These cabins do not come with insulation, but walls are 40mm thick and designed for Northern Europe.
