How to fertilise your lawn

First, ensure the soil isn’t dry, and water it in advance if it is. Measure how much fertiliser is needed for your space; the ideal coverage per square metre is listed on the fertiliser label. If using a handheld spreader, multiply the square metres of your lawn by the recommended application rate as listed on the label. If fertilising by hand, take care to evenly spread the fertiliser across the soil—half in the vertical direction, then half horizontally. Water your new lawn well after applying fertiliser.

When should you fertilise your lawn in NZ?

Most grasses only require lawn fertiliser 2-4 times per year. The best time to apply lawn fertiliser in NZ depends on where you live and what type of fertiliser you use.

Should you fertilise before or after mowing?
