On Monday nights , weather permitting , a few of us take puppies and teenage dogs from the Wellington SPCA down to the waterfront, where we are met by up to 10-15 people who need a dog fix and we then walk them around the water front , pass Te Papa, the fountain by Frank Kitts Park to the Michael fowler centre, going over the city to sea bridge and back pass the St John’s bar and Mac’s brewery.
If you can picture 10 or so 3-4 month old puppies ,all wanting to be in front and not being too sure about the world anyway, with skateboards, bikes, people and at the moment the DARK ! most of them it’s the first time out of the shelter ,it not only brings a smile to ours faces but to most of the people going passed. It also helps socialise the pups , at Christmas we have been known to stop at a bar for iced drinks.
And if nothing else it gets me out for a walk .I got the crate because I have an older Rotti who comes with us and the puppies that get on with each other go in the crate and we often have someone sitting in the front seat holding another dog.
Our biggest problem is transporting dogs as only some of them get on with each other and having the crate means I can get more in without fights breaking out
And I don’t have to keep using one of the SPCAs.
