The Bosch PBD 40 bench drill offers a host of innovative, detailed drilling solutions. With conventional drills, you quickly reach the limits of what the tool can do when drilling holes in hard materials (such as metal), or when drilling in small work pieces that are hard to secure. Usually, it is not only the required precision that is lacking, but also the required power. This is entirely different with the powerful and very precise Bosch bench drill PBD 40. As a bench top tool it is always quickly ready for operation, and it is an essential part of any ambitious DIYers workshop thanks to its many detailed solutions. The PBD 40 is made for truly various applications. Whether it is used for repair works in metal or working on wood, the 650 mm high bench drill is really versatile.

A must for all workshops

Any doubts I may have had were soon dispelled upon first use of this drill. Its versatility and ease of use is impressive. The 710w is more than ample to carry out any tasks and the depth of the table makes drilling in wide material possible. The laser is accurate and there is no detectable spindle wobble at all. The depth gauge and speed control are so simple to use, no more trying to pinch my fingers when moving belts on pulleys. My only recommendation to the designers is to put a knob on the side of the wheel to assist when drilling the deeper holes as turning the wheel can be awkward if the drill has to travel long distances. I solved this by putting on a $10 car steering wheel knob from Repco. It works like a charm. Overall, an awesome bit of kit.

I spent great deal of time searching for an additional bench drill for my workshop as my 350 watt one was Ok for small stuff but lacked grunt and I had to change belts for different jobs. I was not aware of this style of Bench drill until I found this on the Trade Tested site. In a word it is superb. My wife uses it as well for hobbies and or the first time can change the drill without having to use a chuck key. Best feature is the dial up drill speed.
