Q:
would this be suitable for chopping up kitchen waste so that it is quicker to break down in the compost bin? If not, do you have a suggestion for a machine that would work for this? thank you
A:
No it's intended for wood-related materials such as hedge, trees cuttings, branches, pine cones etc. Wet, fibrous and stringy material is likely to clog it.

Garden Shredder review

So the good and the bad: ---the good . It is easy to assemble and by far the cheapest on the market. It is very quiet and head phones not needed. It is excellent at dealing with sticks, small branches etc. ---the bad. It tends to jam up with green matter if you try and stuff it with leaves etc which means a hassle in clearing the jam. But overall worth the investment..

Garden shredder

Nice little product if you don't expect too much from it. Works best on dry twiggy material, green stuff will clog it up, but it is easy enough to clear.

Garden Shredder Silent SKU927671

Happy with the product . I tested with a variety of tree types and branches wet and dry, all passed the test . At the end anything too small , wet or dry. I run through at the same time with a straight branch as a guide. Strongly suggest to select a few long Straight branches "before" you start , so as to assist any small or wet material running through the feeder and cutter blades. Value for the money and well made .

such an asset

In the past six weeks I am v happy with this shredder. It is about as loud as a neighbours lawnmower, A fade of dry autumn material reduces to a bin or thereabouts of mulch and the bin is a good size to carry. Clearly it prefers dry crunchy branches and stalks but its easy to reverse - it spat back the tomato plants. The instruction manual is excellent, one of the best of its kind for dos and donts, leading to best practice usage immediately.
