What is the circular saw best for?

Circular saws are highly versatile, relatively lightweight, and usable without requiring a lot of room or dedicated workshop space. Similar to a table saw or mitre saw, they are best for straight rips and crosscuts into wood – but with the portability to be used outdoors or for large pieces of wood. Circular saws can also make bevels and plunge cuts with their adjustable cutting angle and blade depth.

Do I need a jigsaw or a circular saw?

Jigsaws and circular saws seem similar from the outset, both fantastic beginner tools that use a vertical cutting process. However, jigsaws have a small blade that moves up and down, while circular saws have a large spinning disc blade. This difference in blade mechanism means that jigsaws are better suited for freeform curved cuts, while circular saws are best for cutting in a straight line.
