This cute and rustic model is made of solid wood. It has a raised sleeping area well off the ground to prevent dampness and a ramp for easy nest access. There are mini windows to keep it light inside, and the separate nesting area makes it easy to collect those valuable eggs. This great coop also makes a great home for rabbits or guinea pigs.

Q:
What is the timber? Is it treated? Ground treated? How long will it last out in the weather?
A:
The timber is fir, kiln dried for 72 hours. It comes with a basic water-based stain. This is so people who wish their coop to be completely non-toxic can have it that way. Feel free to add treatment to yours, other options to help longevity would be raising it slightly off the ground, part treating vulnerable areas, having it in a sheltered area or building a base for it.

Solid, reliable, easy to assemble

The chickens have been using this for a month now, there are no issues. It was super easy to assemble with pre-drilled holes. Everything aligned perfectly. It has withstand winds and rain by now as well. The reason for taking away one star is because there are some inconsistencies with the photos. They are small inconsistencies it would have made no difference whether I purchase this or not, but it is a bit different (eg it's entirely open at the bottom there is no solid wall under that small box on the side, so there is no shelter from wind it blows through). Also, the instructions seem to have been illustrated by someone who didn't try to assemble this. It made me a bit frustrated that the instructions are unclear, the images show a different coop, you just kinda have to logically guess what's going on. But otherwise a solid good purchase once you get over that bump. Chickens like it.

Wooden Chicken Coop

I have the happiest quail in their new house. It was easy to assemble & of good standard materials. The only suggestion I have to improve the coop is the door for upstairs I have had to screw the pull board as the staples are not really that strong..

Good value

I had a few different coops of this kind and this so far is the sturdiest. I like it has plastic windows in the door to keep the rain out, though there is a bit of a gap around the door, but its not too bad. The nesting box has a divider and has two good size nests. There are two perches in the roosting area. The roof seems solid enough. I had a similar coop before and it lasted about 2-3 years before it needed replacing. Good value and decent quality for its price. Great little coop for my two chooks. Would fit up to 4 chooks, but no more than that, as it becomes a bit of a squeeze. Easy to put together.
