Q:
How is the perfomance in a high wind situation?
A:
These aren't designed for high wind zones, that being said it really depends on how well it's installed (there are heaps or variables - angle, what it's fixed to, how exposed, how taut etc) generally we'd expect your fixings to fail before the sail.

Q:
Have you done any effective shade tests between the sail colours of beige and charcoal? While I probably prefer the charcoal colour, I do wonder if the beige would create cooler shade under it because it's light colour would reflect the heat, as apposed to the dark colour absorbing it?
A:
No we haven't done a comparison test, but we would tend to say your theory is correct.

Q:
Will rain drip thru if it is set up with centre of sail lower than sides.?
A:
Yes eventually, but that's not your main issue - the extra weight would stretch the sail making it progessively worse. These need to installed as taut as possible with enough fall to clear the water.

Q:
Will you make a sail to measure? ie our deck is 3.7m wide and more than 10 m long, so we'd like something around 8 metres long and 3.6m wide, is that possible?
A:
We are unable to custom make other sizes sorry.

Q:
Is it easy to set up and take down day by day? Assuming it's not retractable? How do you store it when not in use? I assume folding it would eventually weaken the fabric on the folds...
A:
This unit doesn't come with mounting, it's designed to be semi permanent. You could attach it to some carabiners or something similar if you are needing to take this up and down a lot. Best to roll it up and keep it somewhere dry, we have a few outdoor storage options if you are needing anything too.

Q:
Are the dimensions from fixing to fixing? what are the measurements from actual side to side please?
A:
Our shade sail measurements are for the actual size of the sail, excluding fixings.

Q:
Is it possible to reduce the size (or effective size) to 3.6m x 2m ? Or would it damage the fabric to pass it over a timber frame with tbe extra length at a different angle?
A:
It would be very difficult to alter this due to the stitching etc, you could pass it over a frame although this may reduce the longevity somewhat.

Q:
Does this include all the fixings for installation or do you have to buy them separately? Thanks.
A:
No it doesn't, just the corner D-rings as not everyone will be fixing/using them in the same way. If you check under frequently bought together there is fixing kit you can add.

Shade sail

Great quality but poor shape in the sides. When it rains it fills with water.

Always sag in the middle and stretches the fabric to be unusable

Always sag in the middle although the slope and tension is alright. And once it sags, it stretches the fabric then it sags forever no matter how much angle of the slope you change.

Sail

Good product, second one bought, first one lasted around six years. Held up very nicely in some strong winds

Not great

Installed this with 300mm of fall into one corner and as much tension as I could possibly apply. There is no installation guide but I feel this should be good. The centre still sags enough that when the first rain fell it filled up with water, had to pull it down in a raging storm. Don't recommend unless you have the option/want to put a huge angle on it.

Shadesale /tarp

The shade doesn't let the water through, so it's more of a canvas. So even though the shade was angled, the middle sags and fills with water when it rains ,the only way to stop it was to put a pole in the middle like a tent.

Beautiful but not water proof

Lovely colour and easy to install but unfortunately it was not water proof. A light, short shower was fine but anything heavier, it came through. So we had to put a tarpaulin over the top of it. We will be removing it and will look for another option so for us it has been a waste of money.

shade sail

not as good as expected, rained soon after putting it up, rain formed a huge pool in the middle of the shade sail, looking more like a pregnant shade sail than anything else. The material does not allow water to penetrate through.

Shade sail

Very sturdy shade sail

Shade sail

Fitted with extra attachments. Works ok in sunny weather however when it rains we have to take it down as rain doesn’t pass through fabric and pools in the middle making the sail hang heavily. Pain it the neck in Auckland’s changeable rainy climate therefore wouldn’t recommend buying

Reply from Trade Tested It is best to install this shade sail on an angle making sure it is taut so light rain can drain off. We also recommend taking this down during extreme heavy rain or winds.
