Product overview

Over 3000 Kiwis have purchased the popular Colonial Clothes Airer now – a testament to their quality, style, and of course money-saving practicality.

The Airer once installed is designed to be loaded at waist height and then simply pulleyed up to the drying position just below the ceiling. Operating the pulleys is surprisingly easy and the washing will soon dry in the warmer air near the ceiling. And remember – nothing is cluttering your precious floor area!

The Airer itself features Antique Black epoxy-coated metal ends hand-cast in the traditional way. The four wooden rails are crafted from locally sourced kiln-dried Kahikitea (NZ White Pine), specially selected for its straight grain and warp-resistant stability. The rails are supplied fine sanded and ready to use but do not have a coating on them. The light, white pine colour can be stained or clear coated to match existing décor. All other components and hardware are specially selected for their quality and durability to give years of smooth trouble-free service. The kitset includes all mounting hardware, pulleys, cord set and DIY assembly instructions. Order yours today.

Q:
My concern is brown stains from the wood staining the clothes after a bit of use. How long have these been tested? Are you aware of them leaving marks at all, ever? Thanks, Ali
A:
The rails are supplied fine sanded and ready to use but do not have a coating on them, they are a light, white pine colour, which can be stained or clear coated to match existing décor - so marking isn't really a problem.

Q:
Hi, Oue high ceiling is about 5m high, how long the rope goes down from ceiling?
A:
You may need to change the rope for something longer - this comes with a single 10m cord and the roof hooks should be positioned 900mm apart, so taking that into account plus cords used up in pulleys and cleat end, this will be enough for a 3m drop.

Q:
Can the drying rack be used in an outdoor porch area? It will not get direct weathering, but will still be outside. If it can be used outside will it require further weather treatment?
A:
Yes you could, we'd suggest varnishing the wood. Otherwise the Stewi Lift model is also a good idea for this kind of use.

Love it!

Had one of these in our house in Edinburgh so was great to be able to get one here. Easy to install. Works a treat.

Very happy

I had no trouble setting it up in a high roofed carshed ( apart from climbing up the ladder) and it is working well drying my washing.

Excellent alternative

Love my laundry airer, frees up so much room in the laundry and is an aesthetically really cool touch to the house. Awesome to lift the clothes into the warmer air and so great to not have to work around standing racks. Easy to install and use. Great quality product

Colonial clothes dryer

Gave it as a gift for a new build, they are pretty happy with it. Enough room for 2 washers.

Excellent

Just what I have been looking for, remember having these at home when I was a kid, and have been planning on trying to make myself one.

I love it, it doesn’t take up any floor space

Full load of washing

I purchased this for a surprise gift for my wife as we normally dry our clothes on those small clothes horses that look like they are going to bend in half when it’s got clothes hanging on them. She wasn’t to impressed with the size of the hanging airer (2.4m) to begin with saying it’s going to make the living room look cluttered. But after a couple of days and you totally get used to it and how good it utilises the dry warm air up in the ceilings space with the fire going we have dry washing after a couple of hours! We love it

clothes airer

Came on time Went together well Note polyurethaned like in the photo - Raw timber which is OK as will not stain the clothes. Use it every day Recommend it
